Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between frequencies of family meals and elementary school students¡¯ depression, internet addiction, and academic performance. 747 elementary school students participated in the study and completed questionnaires measuring demographic characteristics, the frequencies of family meal per week, and levels of depression and internet addiction. During this time, teachers completed academic performance checklist. Crosstabluation analysis and ANCOVA were employed to analyze the results. First, students in two-parent families with a non-working mother who are not also enrolled in a child nutrition program more frequently will have family meals together. In addition, compared to other students, these students were less likely to experience symptoms of depression and internet addiction. However, no statistically significant differences were found in terms of students¡¯ academic performance based on the frequencies of family meal. Further findings and implications were elaborated in the study.
